Los Angeles, CA- Today, Councilmember Curren Price announced a $1.25 million Immigration Relief fund for constituents of Council District 9. The relief fund will support legal services, universal representation, education, outreach and filing fee assistance to hundreds of immigrant Angelenos. These funds will be distributed to CARECEN-LA and our partner organizations, the Coalition of Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI).

The Immigration Relief Fund will: 

• Expand:  Free Community legal services including education and outreach for residents of Council District 9 
• Secure: Cover the cost of USCIS filing fees for Citizenship, DACA and other forms of relief  
• Provide Due Process: Provide due process for ALL through universal representation for undocumented community members facing deportation.

Martha Arevalo, Executive Director of the Central American Resource Center of LA issued the following statement:

"We thank Council-member Price for his continued leadership and understanding of the ongoing struggle that our immigrant communities face. In 2017 during the fear and uncertainty that our communities faced with the emergence of the Trump Administration, Council-member Price rose to the forefront and provided resources to further protect our immigrant community by funding legal services and filing fees for naturalization and TPS applicants. 

We must help the most vulnerable Angelenos apply for all types immigration relief, whether it be affirmative applications, such as Naturalization and DACA, or by providing deportation defense representation. This funding comes at a time when immigration reform is stalled at the national level and uncertainty continues to plague the future of our immigrant communities. We need more elected leaders in Los Angeles and California to create similar efforts for all of their constituents; defending immigrants is a shared responsibility. ”
