Job Summary

CARECEN seeks a dynamic and creative digital organizer to collaborate strategically across teams and play a critical role in the communications team’s digital objectives and goals. In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities, the digital organizer will contribute to the ideation and the execution of impactful digital advocacy campaigns, employing creative and innovative approaches. This is a full-time position based out of CARECEN’s Los Angeles office with possibilities for travel. 

Job Responsibilities/Essential Duties

• Contribute to the development and implementation of CARECEN's digital communications strategy while elevating its brand presence in coordination with the communications manager and the director of organizing, policy, and advocacy
• Generates and curates compelling and informative programmatic content for CARECEN's website, social media outlets, email initiatives, and additional digital platforms
• Maintain CARECEN’s day to day social media platforms that aligns with key communications strategies
• Curate compelling action alerts, online petitions and other creative tactics that contribute to CARECEN’s organizing and advocacy campaigns
• Formulate and maintain a strategic and dynamic editorial calendar that aligns with the diverse requirements of departments throughout the organization
• Monitor, assess, and regularly report on crucial digital communications metrics, including website traffic, social media expansion, email open rates, and more
• Collaborate in on-the-ground organizing and media endeavors, encompassing tasks such as live documenting and capturing personal narratives
• Support and prepare CARECEN spokespersons (staff and community members) for interviews and communications engagements
• Coordinate with external consultants, vendors, volunteers as needed (e.g. videographers, graphic designers, student fellows or interns)
• Support the Organizing, Advocacy and Policy Department in other efforts and projects as needed

 

Required Skill/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
  • Possesses robust copywriting abilities and a proven track record in curating, developing, and overseeing online content for diverse social media platforms and impactful email campaigns
  • Enthusiastic about simplifying intricate issues into easily digestible content, tailored for platforms like Twitter and threads, as well as crafting concise videos for platforms like TikTok and Reels
  • Capable of exhibiting creativity and adaptability in high-pressure rapid response situations within a fast-paced political and digital landscape
  • Expertise in social justice matters, with a particular focus on immigration, education, and labor movements
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs
  • Proficiency in Canva & Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple work streams and partnerships
  • Experience developing and implementing a communications strategy is preferred
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with diverse communities and organizations
  • Ability to work both collaboratively in a team-based environment and independently

Classification & Work Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, flexibility required based on the needs of the organization. The normal workweek for this position is 35 hours, equaling 7-hour workdays. Responsibilities may require working evenings and some weekends. The position is part of the bargaining unit represented by the union.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position operates in a professional office environment and in the field for community activities. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary.

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel to CARECEN offices, other off-site locations, and with possibilities for travel to Sacramento and Washington D.C. Mileage reimbursement is available. The ability to drive with a valid CA license, car insurance and a registered vehicle is preferred.
