College Head Start

COLLEGE_HEAD_START_IMG1.jpg

College Head Start is a free program to help students from low-income and immigrant families get to and graduate from college. This intensive series of workshops lasts eight months, and enrollment is limited to 35 students. There is also free walk-in help for students who need review of their college enrollment applications, financial aid paperwork, or academic planning.

  • Phase 1 helps students with the mechanics of applying to public and private universities and the community colleges
  • Phase 2 helps students and parents prepare financially, including seeking financial aid and scholarships
  • Phase 3 helps students and their families get used to college life.

Enrollment for College Head Start goes from early- to mid-September. The group meets once a week, on Saturdays 10 a.m.--1 p.m., at CARECEN's Youth Center. Enrollment is first-come, first-served, without consideration of GPA, school attended, or career path. The program also includes training for parents to help them adjust to the college transition.
