Pay Range: $23.00 - $25.00 hourly, depending on experience

Location: CARECEN’s Los Angeles Office and Hybrid  

 

Job Summary 

Under the direction of the Development Director, the Individual Giving Development Associate is responsible for supporting all fundraising operations for CARECEN, ranging from duties related to donor database management, donor stewardship, and donor campaign implementation. The ideal candidate has a strategic outlook and vision and can build bold, innovative, and dynamic donor engagement communications and strategies. The Individual Giving Development Associate will have primary responsibility for managing CARECEN’s Annual Fund Campaign by working closely with our Legal Department, setting strategy, and executing fundraising plans for sustaining and growing the number of annual donors, increasing the size of individual donations, and converting individual donors to major donors. In addition, they will maintain an effective online communications program to enhance the organization’s image and donor engagement.  All responsibilities require ongoing knowledge of activities and programs throughout the organization, exemplary written and oral communication skills, and an exceptionally high level of attention to detail. 

 

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

Donor Campaign Implementation and Stewardship:  

  • In concert with the Development Director and the Legal Department, design and execute the yearly donor recruitment and engagement strategy.  
  • Work collaboratively across the organization, departments, and working groups to advance the organization’s fundraising goals. 
  • Serve as a key point of contact for the Legal Department to increase unrestricted revenue using success stories, stats, and updates.  
  • Assist in creation of direct mail, electronic fundraising appeals, and social media campaigns; execute those campaigns by building lists and supporting the design process. 
  • Develop and fulfill donor benefits, major gift recognition, donor correspondence and mailings. 
  • Maintain a schedule of contacts with donors regarding events/needs of CARECEN. 
  • Support the team in managing critical correspondence related to development and partnerships with major donors.  
  • Support the major giving and Board engagement efforts of CARECEN. 
  • Monitor revenue and expenses related to individual giving and support Development Director in areas of development reporting in conjunction with Senior Development Associate; and 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director. 

Donor Database Management 

  • Maintain donor database with Senior Development Associate, by inputting ongoing donations and organizing / tagging our database for donor segmenting / solicitation purposes.  
  • Help with preliminary research to build and replenish pipeline of major donors and relapsed donors. 
  • Coordinate stewardship touch points, internal and external meetings, arrange meetings, send invites, and maintain ongoing communication.  
  • Responsible for sending acknowledgements of donations to donors and granting agencies, as well as continuing engagement.  
  • Schedule quarterly calls, surveys, email response with donors to refine our target audience and to gather feedback / troubleshooting for upcoming campaigns.  
  • Update fundraising distribution lists. 

Communication Support: 

  • Enhance the organization’s image and donor engagement through a creative communication strategy using various media platforms, alongside our Senior Development Associate.  
  • Design, write, and develop visually appealing and creative campaign materials to effectively communicate our programs and services, paying close attention to our Legal Department updates, in coordination with Digital Organizer and other staff members. 

Special Events:  

  • Support Senior Development Associate with the logistics of a large in-person gala event, as well as other donor events spread throughout the year.  

Support Grant Writing and Reporting:  

  • Maintain interpersonal communication with foundation and corporate funders and respond to ongoing requests for supplemental information and data from CARECEN teams and/or funders. 
  • Identify and research new potential funders through foundation directories.  
  • Assist with other development functions such as foundation calls, site visits, and other requests as assigned by Development Director. 

Required Skills/Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in development and cultivating individual giving; 
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, moves management, and gift accounting practices; 
  • Exceptional, proven communications and writing skills including experience in writing direct mail appeals, e-appeals, website copy, social media and other written materials; 
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines; 
  • Customer service sensibility, collaborative personality, and ability to initiate direct communications with current and potential donors; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, project coordination experience and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors; 
  • Attention to detail and database management skills 
  • The position may involve some evening and weekend work  
  • Ability to drive with a valid CA license and registered vehicle is preferred  

 

Classification & Work Schedule 

The position is a full-time hourly position. Office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The work schedule for this position is a 35-hour workweek; 7-hour workdays. The position may require weekend work.   

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The position operates in a professional office environment. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend and or stand as necessary. Work is performed in a variety of work settings, including CARECEN’s offices, workspace provided by others, libraries, and other government facilities, among others. The position may involve some evening and weekend work.  

 

Travel Requirement 

Ability to travel to CARECEN offices, and other off-site locations. Mileage reimbursement is available. Ability to drive with a valid CA license and a registered vehicle is preferred.
