ICE Out of L.A. is a county-level campaign to end all interaction between the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and local law enforcement agencies. In the past, deals known as 287g agreements between the federal government and local police departments and sheriff's offices have permitted local law enforcers to act as immigration agents.
We believe this criminalizes a civil violation and harms immigrant communities, especially people who do not have legal status, because it forces them further into the shadows and prevents them from reporting crimes and cooperating with police in investigations.
