CARECEN Stands with the Immigrant Community in the Face of a Second Trump Administration

Nationwide- Earlier this morning, former President Trump and JD Vance were officially elected as the 47th President and Vice President of the United States in a decisive victory, securing both the popular vote and key swing states. In a shift in Congress, political power has changed in the Senate, with Republicans gaining a majority, while the outcome in the House remains undecided.

In Response Martha Arevalo Executive Director of CARECEN-LA Has Issued the Following Statement:

It has been a long and exhausting election season, marked by ongoing displays of racism and xenophobia that have once again surged to new heights. The impact of President-elect Trump’s racism and xenophobia is never forgotten. It is a difficult moment for many who fight for social justice in this country and to relive the trauma of the past. CARECEN stands with immigrants and all marginalized groups in solidarity and resistance as we continue to organize and secure protections.

Protecting as many members of our immigrant communities as possible is critical. We call on the Biden administration and all elected officials to use their remaining time in office to secure relief and protections for all immigrants. We urge the Biden administration to deliver a redesignation of TPS for Central American countries. For Salvadorans—the largest community of TPS holders—the deadline for the administration to announce a decision is January 8, 2025. We also call on all elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels to leave no stone unturned to in the short term, take actions that protect immigrants and in the long term invest in and strengthen the immigrant community safety net.

We remind our communities to be alert of misinformation, and no immigration laws have changed. It is essential to stay vigilant against “notarios” offering unauthorized immigration services and advice. For more information we will be hosting an information session, “charla”, next week on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 6 pm at our main office. For more information stay tuned to CARECEN's social media channels for updates. ¡Siempre con la Comunidad!
