CARECEN-LA Denounces ICE’s Re-Detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia During Scheduled Baltimore Check-In

Los Angeles, CA. - Mr. Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador in March in violation of a federal court order and later returned to the United States, now faces the threat of a second deportation, this time to Uganda. His detention yesterday came just three days after he was released from federal custody in Tennessee, where prosecutors had brought questionable charges against him.

CARECEN-LA is calling on Congress and the Courts to ensure Mr. Abrego Garcia’s immediate release and permanent protection from deportation.

“We demand that Kilmar Abrego Garcia be freed at once, reunited with his family, and given the safety and stability he deserves,” said Martha Arevalo, CARECEN-LA Executive Director. “The criminalization, abuse of power and disregard for human rights must stop. This is a cruel and calculated campaign of retaliation.”

This case is about the relentless persecution of immigrant families. We will not stop until the cruel separation of families stops. We demand full respect for due process and the law.
