Job Title: Accounting Specialist
Classification & FLSA Status: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Pay Range: Starting at $35/hour (depending on experience and qualifications)

Location: Hybrid - Telecommute and CARECEN’s Los Angeles Office
Job Summary
CARECEN maintains a $14 million annual budget and requires the assistance of a full-time, experienced accounting specialist in basic tasks including recording journal entries, updating ledgers, tracking receivables/payables, and maintaining schedules. The accounting specialist will work closely with the Finance Manager and Controller.
Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Record basic transactions in the journals and subsidiary journals and post entries to the ledger accounts with minimum supervision
- Maintain balance sheet accounts’ schedules
- Reconcile bank statements
- Maintain subsidiary spreadsheets
- Submit grant invoices to funders
- Perform all duties related to Accounts Receivable: Processing of cash receipts including verifying coding, depositing, data entry, performing credit card reconciliations, and handling, wires, and ACH
- Perform all duties related to Accounts Payable: Examine invoices and staff reimbursements for accuracy, completeness, and proper backup; ensure vendor invoices are paid on time; communicate with vendors and staff in a professional manner.
- Assist in the preparation of CARECEN annual budget and grant proposal budgets
- Participate in the month-end closing of the books
- Work with HR to gather data for semi-monthly payroll and transmit it to payroll service provider.
- Record semi-monthly payroll in the accounting system.
- Prepare monthly variance reports for assigned grants
- Responsible of annual 1099s reporting
- Work with fundraising colleagues to conduct monthly revenue reconciliations between accounting and fundraising systems
- Back up other staff, and assume other duties as required.
- Be ready to assume a workload that frequently necessitates an adjustment of priorities
Required Skill/Qualifications
- One-three years of accounting experience in non-profit sector
- Organized and efficient
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use Excel, QuickBooks, Adobe Acrobat
- Able to work in a busy office Independent, motivated self-starter who collaborates and communicates well with colleagues and across internal teams
- Degree in accounting is a plus

Classification and Work Schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Office hours of operation are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday – Friday, with flexibility required based on the needs of the organization. Office is located at CARECEN’s Los Angeles headquarters.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel for meetings at offsite locations in the Los Angeles area.
