In a project aimed at taking higher education beyond the traditional campus, CARECEN and East Los Angeles College are teaming up to help Pico Union high school students learn about their culture with a Central American Studies course taught at CARECEN on Saturdays. The course runs through the Spring semester 2016.
Students earn three college and 10 high school credits. They focus on learning about the Central American experience in the United States and its transnational connection with the countries of origin. Students registered on Jan. 30, and the course, which is free of charge, ends on June 4.
CH. ST. 031: This course introduces the Central American experience in the United States, with an emphasis on the transnational connections between the countries of origin and communities in the United States.
