This chronology is part of
CARECEN's on-going Documentation/Archive Research Project aimed at preserving and
sharing it's organizational history and highlighting CARECEN's 15 year contribution to
Central American community life in Los Angeles. The chronology is designed to be an
educational tool to share CARECEN's history to a broad audience, in particular, youth.
CARECEN recognizes the importance of documenting and
publishing it's history to assist in the understanding of CARECEN's past and it's future.
By recognizing, valuing and documenting our past, we can create a foundation for the
education of tomorrow's young leaders.
This chronology is the beginning phase of the Documentation
Archive/Research Project. Numerous individuals contributed to this initial effort.
CARECEN's Nueva Generacion Youth Leadership Interns, Erika Gutierrez and Jorge
Gamez, compiled primary research material. Early founders, Jesus Aguilar and Aquiles
Magana contributed their personal memories, in addition to former directors Roberto Lovato
and Linton Joaquin. CARECEN staff - Judy London, Elda Martinez, Linda Romero, Francy
Balcomb - and Mario Pretto proofread the chronology too many times to count.
Alessandra Moctezuma contributed the Spanish translation.
The print version of the chronology was designed by Sandra Rodriguez, with printing
services generously produced courtesy of Bill Scott and Associates.
This chronology is not intended to serve as the definitive
history of CARECEN. We will continue to expand and add the collective memories of many
more individuals, in addition to, future contributors to CARECEN's on-going history.
