CARECEN Stands Against the Detention of Migrant Children

“No child belongs behind bars, we call for an end to the inhumane detention of ALL migrants.”

Los Angeles, CA.- On Thursday the Trump Administration announced a new rule that will allow ICE to keep immigrant children and their families in detention indefinitely. This new rule, which is set to go into effect in 60 days, will end the 1997 Flores settlement that currently bars authorities from holding migrant children in detention for more than 20 days.

CARECEN is against this decision and stands in firm opposition to this Administration’s recent attack on migrant children. We believe no child belongs behind bars and call for an end to the inhumane detention of ALL migrants.

“We will fight back against this new rule change and continue to push for the protection and the rights of all immigrants and refugees,” said Martha Arevalo, CARECEN Executive Director

This decision goes against American ideals and lacks morality and compassion, it will undoubtedly disregard the well-being of children and is set to bring further harm to immigrant children and their families and lead to mass incarceration of migrants, increased deportations and continued human rights abuses.
